Music in the City Autumn Series

The Autumn Series in Geelong, an annual event, is designed to bring live musical performances to the city’s heart and enhance the local cultural landscape. The series is held in various venues throughout Central Geelong. These include outdoor spaces like Little Malop Central, the Green Spine Triangular Park and other community spaces. This event features a diverse line-up of local musicians, performers and singers. Features of the Series:

1. Live music performances:
   • The series features soloists, duos and trios as well as larger groups. Genres include jazz, rock and acoustic music, pop and more.
   • The performances usually take place between 12 pm and 2 pm in the most popular areas of cities, providing a vibrant and accessible midday escape to locals and tourists alike.
2. Roving entertainment:
   • The series includes roving entertainment such as street performers, jugglers and circus acts. These performances bring a sense of fun and surprise to the event, making it even more dynamic.
   • Stilt walkers and bubble artists are among the roving entertainment options. DJs also provide entertainment throughout the day.
3. Special Event:
   • International Women’s Day (March 8th) marks a special event within the series that celebrates female talent with performances such as The Gems.
   • The series hosts “Fridays After Work”, where music is played in the evening (5pm-7pm), with roving entertainment. This event is often held in collaboration with Tastes of Central Geelong – a local initiative promoting food and culture.
4. Locations:
   • The majority of performances take place in little Malop Central a public space located in the heart of Geelong that offers an inviting environment for audiences to enjoy music.
   • Other venues include Green Spine Triangular Park a public park that serves as a scenic spot for evening performances.
   • The Geelong waterfront, and Johnstone Park, are sometimes also included in the series. Events such as the Tastes of Central Geelong, which is held at the waterfront and combines food, entertainment, and music, are part of the series.
5. Taste Central Geelong:
   • Some events are part the larger Tastes Central Geelong Initiative, which combines food, music, and culture. These events offer the chance to enjoy live music and local cuisine in beautiful locations.
6. Schedule and Dates:
   • Music in the City Autumn Series is usually held from March to April. Performances are scheduled during the week, including some lunchtime events and evening performances. The schedule has been designed to appeal to all audiences, regardless of whether you are looking for a midday escape or an evening wind-down.
7. Family-friendly and free:
   • This series’ accessibility is one of its most distinctive features. The majority of performances are free, so everyone can enjoy the music.
   • It is a family event with entertainment for all ages.

   • The series is known to feature a variety of local talent from solo artists such as Eden Ariston, Bethany Lyall, and bands and trios like Los Locos Trio, and SpiderJazz Trio.

9. Weather Dependant:
   • The weather can affect the performance as it is often performed outdoors. Although the city has a mild climate in autumn, the organizers reserve the right cancel or reschedule the performances if the weather is bad.
